Fighting Game Tournaments | Rules and Disclaimers
Tournaments are part of Pittsburgh Gaming Expo 2023; purchase of weekend badge plus an additional $5.00 buy-in is required to enter tournaments.
Entrants must follow the PGX Code of Conduct
Entrants under the age of 18 MUST be accompanies by an adult or legal guardian to qualify for prizes.
Registration for tournaments will close 5 minutes prior to the start of the bracket, and check-in will begin at that time.
Entrants will be asked for a phone number at check-in. This phone number will be used to notify you via text that your match is up. It will not be used by Pittsburgh Gaming Expo for anything else.
From the moment you are notified of your game via text, you will have 5 minutes to report for your game. After five minutes have passed, you will be disqualified from the entire bracket.
Tournaments are split into a 2-day event, so a two-day pass MUST be purchased to participate in tournaments at PGX.
Due to compatibility issues and in the interest of keeping the tournaments moving at an acceptable pace, legacy controllers will not be allowed at the event unless they have been modded with a Brooks adapter or other device that allows them to work natively with PS4.

Similar to previous Smash titles, if time runs out, the winner is first determined by how many stocks remain, and then by the percentage after time is up.
If both stock and percentage are the same, or a game ends in both players losing their last stock at the same time, then a tiebreaker is played, which consists of a 1 stock and 3 minute match with the same characters and the same stage.
Stage Striking // Stage List Rules
Info for newcomers:
Stage striking is a common procedure in Super Smash Bros. tournaments, used to ensure the stage of a set's first match is fairly selected. Though the exact process varies depending on the number of available stages, stage striking involves starting with a list of neutral stages, then having all players in the match take turns removing one or more stages from the list until only one stage is left. The procedure can be skipped entirely by invoking the Gentleman's Clause, skipping the stage striking process by way of mutual agreement.
Stage Striking Instructions:
For game 1, players play a best-of-1 Rock-Paper-Scissors and the winner bans 1 of the starting stages. The loser then bans 2 starting stages and the winner picks from the remaining two starting stages. For game 2 onward, the winner of the previous game will ban 2 stages, then the loser of the previous game will select from the remaining stages. Players are NOT ALLOWED to counterpick to ANY stage that they previously won on.
